Wrap Up with Our Winter Offer: Things to Do in Truro

We love Winter. The weather is crisp so we wrap up cosy, the light goes sooner so we hang up fairy lights, we all sing carols and drink mulled wine, we put up the tree and eat more than we should but nobody cares because it’s almost Christmaaaaaaas! It’s certainly the season of joy! Here’s what we’ll be getting up to this Winter for those looking for some Winter-spiration:

Christmas Shopping in Truro

Truro is the shopping capital of Cornwall and we happen to be just a 10 minute walk from the centre of it all! Stroll down the prettily lit Lemon Street and join the hub on Lemon Quay where the Christmas Market takes place. Then explore the cobbled streets and market stalls, viewing all of the pretty Cornish gifts from locally made soaps and skincare to clothing, toys, artwork and more!

Ice Skating at Eden

Winter isn’t official until the Eden Ice Rink opens. We’re pleased to say the ice rink is now open, let the skating commence! Whether you’re a complete novice or an aspiring Torvill and Dean, the rink promises to be festive and fun for all!

Drinking Festive Cocktails

You couldn’t be better placed for festive cocktails than at Merchant House! A short stroll down the hill brings you to our sister hotel Mannings where you’ll find a selection of frosted-glass favourites! Then you can lose the calories by walking back up the hill!

Seeing the Lights

The big lights switch on is always a fantastic event in Truro! This year the City of Lights Parade takes place on Wednesday 23rd November and will see the parade of lanterns through the centre of Truro. It’s a fantastic evening to wrap up warm and follow the parade then return to us for mince pies and a hot drink next to the wood burner!

If you fancy a light display with a difference, make sure you head to Mousehole to see this legendary fishing village lit up, both on the land and the water with the most spectacular display.

Visit the Theatre

Winter is the best time of year to catch a show. With dancing, classical concerts, Al Murray and, of course, the Christmas panto, Jack and the Beanstalk, there’s plenty to see at the Hall for Cornwall, not too far from our front door! Alternatively, for a truly unique experience, why not head to the Minack Theatre? Make sure you wrap up warm and take a raincoat, something comfy to sit on and a flask of hot tea, then enjoy the Minack’s Christmas Cracker Concert on 18th December.

Enjoying Mince Pies

But our favourite thing about Winter is that our fantastic Chef Dave (who is responsible all year round for making our delicious homemade cake each day) makes his super-special homemade mince pies and they are divine! We’re on the countdown to 1st December as we simply can’t wait! So if you’re staying with us in December you can expect complimentary tea and homemade mince pies on arrival, that’ll get you feeling festive in no time!

As if the mince pies weren’t enough to tempt you, we’ve got a super-special Winter Warmer offer! Stay with us from just £65 in a Cosy Double room and enjoy free car parking, free WiFi, complimentary tea and homemade cake (mince pies in December) and a cracking full English breakfast!
