Winter in Cornwall

We’re slowly creeping closer to winter and dare we say it, Christmas! We’re here to tell you about one of the best ways to get into the festive Truro spirit and how you can spice up your winter with our winter warmer city breaks.

Truro’s City of Lights festival takes place every year and sees children and adults come together with lanterns to illuminate the chilly cobbles with a parade through the city.

Here are a couple of our favourite lanterns from recent festivals.

This year the City of Lights festival will take place on Wednesday November 18th and will be full of music, dance and festivity. And of course, late night shopping!

Feel the deep rumbling drum tones reverberate through you, watch the dancers swish the elaborate fabric of their outfits past you, feel the cold on your nose signifying that winter has well and truly arrived, warm up with the taste of fresh sugary doughnuts on your lips, smell the rich sweet aroma of pulled pork baps, and watch the light from the bobbing lanterns fall across your face.

Why not end a perfect night at the City of Lights festival with a stay at Merchant House just a short walk away? Come back and sit in the lounge with our toasty log burner, which will be roaring to make you warm after your festive Cornish adventure.

Before you go to the festival, why not enjoy a steaming cup of tea or coffee with a chunky slice of Dave’s homemade cake to set you up?

We’re even offering a special winter warmer break to put some heat into the chilly months. In November, December and January, you can stay with us for as little as £45.00 per night, with a tasty full English breakfast every morning and tea or coffee with Dave’s delicious homemade cake every afternoon in the lounge!

Don’t forget we have dog friendly rooms too and you can bring Fido along with you for free!
