Treat Fido this Christmas – Peanut Butter and Bacon Biscuits!

We know that all dog lovers want to treat their pups, and so Merchant House is here to share a tasty peanut butter and bacon biscuit recipe for you to make your hound as a Christmas treat! Our very own Merchant House Mutt Murphy thinks it’s particularly delicious!

The following recipe uses peanut butter (a doggy favourite!) but make sure you check that your peanut butter doesn’t contain xylitol, as it can be lethal for doggies, even in a small quantity! If you’ve got any questions or concerns about the ingredients in our recipe and their suitability for your hound, please contact a vet before making them.

You can make these biscuits to whatever size you want, ideal if you’re making them for different sized dogs!

What you’ll need:

250g of natural creamy peanut butter,
180ml of skimmed milk
One large egg,
240g of whole-wheat flour
One tablespoon of baking powder
30g of whole-rolled oats
3 rashers of chopped cooked bacon

Step One (We’re predicting you’ll have Fido as a helper in the kitchen!)

You’re only going to need one bowl for this recipe, so get ready to throw everything in! Use a large bowl to put in the peanut butter, milk and egg with a big spoon. Then you can whisk up the mixture to get out all the lumps before adding the flour and baking powder but note, the dough’s going to be firm and thick so you may need to roll your sleeves up and get your hands in there! Then add the oats and chopped bacon and keep mixing—it’s a good work out!

Step Two (By this point his eyes will be a little wider and he’ll be watching your every move!)

Roll the dough out until it’s just over 0.5cm thick and then take your favourite cookie cutters to make some hound-friendly shapes! Put the shapes on a baking tray and pre-heat the oven to 160C and get ready for his smell senses to tingle!

Step Three (He’s not going to leave the kitchen, he knows where the cookies are!)

Place the cookies into the oven for 20 minutes just so they’re lightly browning on the underneath, then flip them over and put them back in for another 10 minutes.

Step Four (You’ll have a best friend for life after this!)

Let them cool down completely and then let your drooling best friend try one! Bon appétit!

Merry Christmas to all the dogs out there, from our very own Merchant House hound, Murphy! If you make your special pup some Christmas treats, share the recipe or a picture of your creation on our Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram page!
