We’ve scoured the streets of Truro to try (and test – yum!) the best dog friendly eateries in the city. Read on to hear Murphy’s favourites…
Fig Café, Lemon Street Market
Fig Café is just a short walk down the hill from Merchant House. Situated in Lemon Street market, it’s undercover but still has a pavement café feel so you can people watch for the afternoon with the perfect cup of coffee and a slice of cake. They have a great lunch menu available too (our favourite is the steak and caramalised onion roll!)
The Heron Inn
For great food, traditional ales and the best view in Truro, head to the Heron at Malpas. It’s a lovely walk from Merchant House along the river in Truro, perfect to refuel before a long leisurely wander back. Proper pub food – expect fish and chips, burgers, scampi and baked camembert (mmmm camembert…. That’s Murphy’s favourite!)
Gracey’s Tea Room
For those with a sweet tooth, head to Gracey’s Tea Room, it’s divine! The place for afternoon tea, scones laden with Cornish cream or sinful yet super delicious sundaes, this is the finest tea room in Truro (and dog friendly too!) All served with Tregothnan tea, grown on Tregothnan Estate, just a few miles away, it doesn’t get any more Cornish than this!
The Thomas Daniell
Just across the road from the Merchant you’ll find the Thomas Daniell. We’re big fans of this stylish gastro-pub. Whether you’re after a quick bar snack (fresh crab and chips) or something more substantial, even if just a coffee, rest assured both you and your best friend will be made totally welcome! There is even an outdoor table and chair for al fresco cappuccino drinking in the sunshine.
Merchant House, of course!
OK so we’re technically cheating – we’re not “really” a restaurant but there’s nowhere like home! We allow our guests to bring takeaways back to enjoy in the lounge in front of the woodburner and we even provide the plates and cutlery – this means Fido can join you too! Not to mention, the afternoon tea and cake created by our chef Dave, there is no better way to spend an afternoon. We also have Murhy’s treat of the day available in the bar each day so Fido won’t go snack-less!
