There’s so much to see and do when visiting Cornwall, it’s hard to recommend only a handful. We’ve put together some of our favourites when it comes to fun days out in our beautiful county. Read on for some inspiration to help you plan the perfect holiday.
Not so much of a secret at all, there’s a reason the Eden Project is world famous and they always have something different going on! From events to their renowned Eden Sessions featuring fantastic artists and, of course, in winter you can even enjoy ice skating, it’s a fun day out whatever the weather!
Padstow is the sort of place where you simply have to spend a day, especially at this time of year. Explore the harbour front, the pretty shops and foodie favourites – book a table at one of the many leading restaurants such as No 6 or Rick Stein’s or why not kick back on a bench and watch the water with a Chough pasty in hand – it doesn’t get much better than that! To combat the calories, park up in Wadebridge and cycle the Camel Trail – the question is, will you be able to hop back on your bike after a day in the foodie capital of Cornwall?
Go to the Beach
When in Cornwall, do what the Cornish do and set up camp on the sand! A day at the beach in the summer is the best day of all. A good novel, swim towel, wind brake and sun cream and you’re good to go. You can even ask us to fix you a packed lunch for the day (although you’ll probably be full from the cracking fry up you had for breakfast!). The big question is which beach? So many to choose from! We love Maenporth and Gyllyngvase in Falmouth, Perranporth is always a winner or a bit further afield you’ll find Watergate Bay and Mawgan Porth – the best for those with furry friends. But for something a bit more secluded, check out our Locals Secret beaches, these sandy hideaways are some of our favourites!
The Newquay Activity Centre, located on Fistral beach – the home of British surfing, is a one-stop shop for adrenaline junkies, outdoor adventurists and anyone keen to dabble in water sports. Offering over 30 ocean based activities that are open to all ages, levels and abilities, means there really is something for everyone. The action packed adventures include surfing lessons & coaching weekends, bodyboarding classes & camps, Super Stand Up Paddle tours, Coasteering along the Cornish coast, handplaning in Atlantic rollers, and hilariously fun beach challenges such as the Cornish Challenge. All activities are available to small or large groups, families, individual lessons, stag & hen parties, corporate events and even military adventurous training days. Ranked number one on Tripadvisor for days out in Cornwall, and two time Gold winners of the Cornish Tourism Awards, you’re guaranteed a day out you’ll never forget!
Explore the local gardens
Cornwall is famed for our gardens, each one unique and special in their own way. Some of our favourites include nearby Trelissick which is dog friendly and has woodland walks, a private beach and the original house, Trebah near Falmouth which is award winning and the magnificent Glendurgan which we’ve written about here – it’s a must-visit!
For something a bit different you can’t beat St Michael’s Mount. A private island, you walk to it at low tide and get to explore the most incredible scenery and beach views. Enjoy a sundowner and a bite to eat at the Godolphin Arms to watch the sun set in style.
Those are only five of our favourites – let us know when you come and stay what sort of activities you enjoy and whether you are bringing children or Fido and we’ll be able to advise you on the best days out to suit you!
