Join the chain gang at Merchant House

Anyone with a bike will see it as an extension of themselves – which is why we’ve a special place in Merchant House for those who prefer to explore the world perched on a saddle.

We’ve linked together a guide so you can conquer the ups, downs and round-the-bends Truro and Cornwall have to offer.

Two wheels, two Networks

Truro happens to be part of two National Cycle Networks, (3 and 32, see the respective routes here and here), and with our secure bike storage and drying room we see a fair share of pedallers through the door!

Route 3 runs aaaaall the way through Cornwall, connecting the ‘edge of the world’ of Land’s End to the buzzing city of Bristol. Most people don’t quite go this far, but it goes to show the opportunity this impressive route gives to discover the South West.

As part of the Cornish Way, Route 32 runs in an ‘M’ shape from Truro (for Merchant House, perchance?), through the surf town Newquay, fishing port Padstow before leading into Bodmin – Cornwall’s former capital.

No traffic, no problem

If you don’t quite fancy hitting the roads for your fix of sprocket and saddle, a short drive or bus journey away from Merchant House is Bissoe and its section of Cornwall’s “Mineral Tramway”.

This traffic free trail showcases Cornwall’s mining past, and the lack of engines and petrolheads means that even if you’re not quite Bradley Wiggins, you can safely trundle along without fear of collision.

Bissoe Bike hire can sort you out with any steed you desire, even holding tandems for the more daring wheeler!

Spares, repairs, quality cycle wares

Biking’s great, but sometimes things go wrong and you need a tweak to get things working again – there are a number of independent cycle shops in and around Truro and the National Cycle Networks where you can get things sorted: Clive Mitchell Cycles, Cycle Logic, Bike Chain Ricci and Pavé Velo are superb and there are several Halfords branches across Cornwall.

Truro and Cornwall have so much more to offer than what we can say in a blog, but hopefully we’ve shown you that you can ride freely whilst staying at Merchant House, so grease that chain and we’ll see you here!
